Editorial Services
Copy Editing
- I ensure good grammar, accurate spelling, and internal consistency throughout your manuscript. To be true to your voice the rules of grammar may need to be flexible, but those exceptions will be documented and justified.
Line Editing
- I am a wordsmith. I can revise a turn of phrase so that it sings with clarity. Line-by-line proofreading for sentence structure, clarity, grammar, and punctuation.
Proofreading
- This is the last step. I catch errant punctuation and spelling errors to make your document print ready.
Developmental Editing
- A full exploration of your book’s message, plot, and structure.
- I will help you organize your manuscript, flesh out your ideas, and provide you with suggestions to make it stand out.
- We discuss its voice and audience to establish goals and strategies for revision, marketing, submission, and publishing.
- Includes a written project outline with key revision suggestions.
Caveats

I do not do indexing, text formatting, or cover design. I am not a book designer and do not self-publish books on behalf of clients.

I do not work with AI generated texts. AI texts cannot be copyrighted under an author’s name. I am not interested in making the rote copy generated by a Large Language Model sound human. LLM texts are easy to spot due to their vagueness and repetition.

Rates vary depending on the word count, where your manuscript is in the developmental process, and the type of service I’m performing. We discuss what types of editing your manuscript would benefit from during the initial consultation.

For Editorial Services, the rate per word varies by genre.
Self-help and nonfiction may be priced slightly higher, as they require closer review to ensure clarity, logical flow, and that the author’s voice shines through.
Manuscript stage
Whether the manuscript is complete or still in an early draft is something we would discuss together during the initial consultation.

About Me
I have extensive experience in non-fiction, particularly memoir, metaphysics, spirituality, New Age, self-care, disability rights, and mental health. I enjoy working in those genres. I am interested and comfortable working with topics that some people might find challenging.
I have six years of technical editing experience for a business publisher. It was exacting, detail-oriented work at the line editing level. Imagine proofreading a phone book or dictionary. Additionally, I am a published author with decades of experience writing nonfiction.
I love words. I love the English language in print. I love the transmission of ideas over long spans of time. I love that the dreams and aspirations of people hundreds or even thousands of years ago can be communicated to us in the here and now. To be the recipients of the inheritance of all human knowledge is miraculous and magnificent.
I have been an out, proud gay man since 1991. I support marginalized voices and edit with an ear towards sensitive, conscious language. It is the editor’s job to help writers avoid insensitive language so that readers aren’t alienated or hurt by what they read. I believe in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. A multicultural society resembles a diamond, every facet sparkles in its own beautiful way. We are stronger in community than we are in isolated, frightened, defensive silos. Despite our difficult historical moment I have hope for the future. There is tension before a butterfly sheds its cocoon.
I am a proud Queer man who was blessed with the opportunity to live in San Francisco during the 1990’s. If I had a time machine I’d go there.
From personal experience I know that recovery is possible and sustainable. In an ideal world everyone would have the opportunity to express their unlimited potential and achieve their highest possible quality of life.
